Introducing SPDocKit Insights: Real-Time SharePoint Performance Monitoring

A typical SharePoint environment has quite a few servers. Thus, it’s very important to monitor their performance. Any unnoticed malfunction can cause server downtime, poor or slow server performance and even corrupt data. By having real-time SharePoint performance metrics, you can react right away if you spot a performance problem.

SPDocKit Insights has an option to retrieve historical data over a selected time frame, for example metrics from the last hour, 24 hours, or two days ago.

What do those metrics tell you?

By monitoring SharePoint performance, you will get ahead of problems such as multiple page-load errors and databases running out of free disk space, which leads to SQL Server outages and causes further problems.

What about physical memory? This might tell you that you need to increase RAM.

You also need to keep an eye on database latency. This is important because a high value indicates that certain settings haven’t been optimized properly or that the system is running slowly. The cause might be due to the network or the lack of SQL Server resources. The outcome is that end users complain about the UX because everything seems to take an eternity to load.

Don’t forget to ensure that the WFE and APP servers have adequate response times. You might also want to avoid resource overutilization.

Event Viewer

Along with the feature for SharePoint performance monitoring, let’s not forget the Event Viewer! Previously, the Event Viewer was a stand-alone section of SPDocKit, but now it comes with SPDocKit Insights, and it’s better than ever.

What’s great about it is that it allows you to search through SharePoint ULS logs from multiple servers and SharePoint farms, as well as search Windows event viewer logs.
