Event Viewer Troubleshooting

There are a couple of errors that may be encountered when using SPDocKit Event Viewer.

Problem:

No agents available. To use the monitoring feature of SPDocKit, please install the SPDocKit Event Collection Service, preferably on a separate server outside the SharePoint Farm. If the collection service has already been installed, please check that is connected to the same database and configured correctly.

Solution:

It is most likely you received this message if you have never used our Event Collection feature, that is, you don’t have any agents in your SPDocKit database.
To start using the feature you need to install it first. See more here and observe steps 5 and 6.

Problem:

There are no active agents available. Please ensure that the collection service(s) is working correctly.

Solution:

There are two possibilities why you got this message:

  • The Collector is not installed but there are agent/s in your SPDocKit database. This can happen if you used the Event Collection feature but then upgraded to a new version without installing the Collector. This can be fixed by installing the aforementioned feature. See here for more information.
  • The Collector is installed but you haven’t gone through the Event Collection Configuration. Please go here and see section: Event Collection Service Configuration.

Problem:

The collection Service is not currently configured on the SP1 farm.

Solution:

This state will occur if you disable the collection via the options screen of SPDocKit Event Viewer. Or, if the farm has no agent assigned to it. In both cases to solve this problem go to the options screen and under “Farms” section check that the “Assigned Agent” filed is populated. See more here.

Problem:

Offline or not accessible – this state will occur if the viewer can not communicate with the SPDocKit Event Collection Service or if the Service is offline . Alternatively, it is possible that something unexpected happens and crashes the SPDocKit Event Collection Service.

Solution:

In case the service is offline you can try turning it back online. Go to Task Manager > Services and try turning the SPDocKit Event Collection Service back on. Alternatively, you can try going through the Event Collection Configuration again. For more information on this, see this article.

Problem:

Collection Disabled – this state will occur if you disable the collection via the options screen of SPDocKit Event Viewer or if you exceed the maximum index size treshold.

Solution:

To change this go to the Options screen of SPDocKit Event Viewer, Agents tab and make sure to check the “Event collection active” checkbox. See here for more information – Event Viewer Configuration section.

Unfortunately, users with Consultant Licenses are currently not able to use SPDocKit Event Collection Feature.
For more information on pricing please go here. Both Farm and Site licenses fully support SPDocKit Event Collection feature.
